Introduction
Faculty of Management and Economics at Sharif University of Technology was established in 1999 with the goal of teaching management and economics with a new and different approach compared to other educational and academic centers. The main motivation for establishing the MBA program at this university was the pressing need of various organizations in the country for individuals who, in addition to their practical knowledge in technical-engineering and experimental fields, needed to acquire management knowledge—a gap felt by senior and middle-level managers. On the other hand, the high complexity of the country's economic issues and the necessity of using modern economic knowledge in policy-making and drawing future prospects led to the establishment of the Economics program and later the Policy-making program at this faculty.

The name of this faculty is relatively well-known among the world's educational institutions. Graduates of this faculty, if they wish to continue their studies abroad, receive excellent offers from the best universities and educational centers worldwide for further education. Some graduates of this faculty have been admitted to and have been among the best graduates of top global economics faculties such as the University of Chicago's economics department, the London School of Economics, or universities like Harvard and MIT, which are ranked as the best economics faculties in the world. This fact demonstrates the acceptable quality of education at this institution. Furthermore, there has been a growing tendency among domestic organizations and institutions to hire graduates of these fields. In recent years, it has become common for students of this faculty to receive suitable job offers from the market even while still studying, and their work is welcomed in important executive and advisory positions, including roles such as manager, deputy, and consultant, within both private and public companies.
History of GSME
The Faculty of Management and Economics at Sharif University of Technology was established in 1999. Various individuals and organizations played a significant role in the process of establishing this faculty.

The first phase of the faculty building, including the ground and first floors, was constructed by the Industrial Development and Renovation Organization of Iran (IDRO) during the chairmanship of the late Mr. Akbar Torkan.

The office supplies and equipment for the faculty were provided with the help of Tavanir Company during the management of Mr. Mohammad Mollaki.

The initial equipping of the faculty library was made possible through donations from the Ministry of Petroleum during the tenure of Mr. Bijan Namdar Zanganeh as Minister.

The network and other computer facilities of the faculty were established through donations from SAIran Company during the management of Mr. Mahmoud Jarrahi.

The entire set of activities to establish this faculty was carried out with the support and effort of the then-management of Sharif University of Technology, under the chancellorship of Dr. Saeed Sohrabpour.
At the time of its establishment, the faculty's activities began with the admission of students to the Executive Master of Arts program and under the name "Faculty of Management and Systems." Concurrent with the implementation of this program, the curriculum for the Master of Business Administration (MBA) was designed, which was subsequently approved by the Ministry of Culture and Higher Education. Thus, this program was added to the country's official higher education offerings for the first time, and the first cohort was initiated through the voluntary transfer of students. Simultaneously with this process, in the year 2000, with the admission of students to the Master of Arts program in Economics, the faculty's name was changed to "Management and Economics." The faculty's activities were then established within the framework of two academic groups: the Department of Management and the Department of Economics. The faculty's qualitative and quantitative development plans were pursued in subsequent years.
In 2018, the Master of Arts program in Science and Technology Policy was added to the faculty's educational portfolio with the admission of its first cohort. In 2021, the interdisciplinary Department of Science and Technology Policy was established within this faculty, with the collaboration of the Institute for Science, Technology and Industry Policy and the Department of Philosophy of Science at Sharif University of Technology. Furthermore, the doctoral program in Science and Technology Policy was established in 2024. In 2025, with the aim of better educating students in the field of economics, the Faculty of Management and Economics has begun admitting undergraduate students in Economic Sciences.
