Introduction

The Faculty of Management and Economics at Sharif University of Technology was established in 1999 with the objective of teaching management and economics through a novel approach distinct from other educational institutions. The primary motivation for creating the MBA program at this university was the acute need felt by various national organizations for individuals who, in addition to their applied knowledge in technical-engineering and experimental sciences, required management training, as well as the gap perceived by upper and middle-level managers. On the other hand, the complexity of the country's economic issues and the necessity of using modern economic knowledge in policymaking and outlining future perspectives led to the launch of the Economic Sciences program and, later, the Public Policy program at this faculty.

The vision of the faculty is to become a leading hub for management and economics education and research in Iran, excel among management and economics faculties in Asia, and rank among the top 10 faculties in the continent. We are determined to achieve this goal through the collective efforts of all faculty members, recruiting professors with strong academic and research backgrounds, selecting talented and hardworking students, utilizing the latest and richest scientific resources, implementing modern teaching methods, and with the support of government bodies and private companies, as well as by expanding cooperation with leading universities in Iran and worldwide.

It is worth noting that the Faculty of Management and Economics was ranked 201-250 in the Business & Economics subject category of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings in both 2020 and 2021.

The faculty began its activities by admitting students to the Executive Master of Management program under the name Faculty of Management and Systems. Simultaneously, it designed the Master of Business Administration (MBA) program, which was approved by the Ministry of Culture and Higher Education. Thus, this program was added to the country's formal higher education curriculum for the first time and was launched through the voluntary transfer of students into its inaugural cohort. Concurrently, in 2000, with the admission of students to the Master of Economic Sciences program, the faculty was renamed the Faculty of Management and Economics. Its activities were structured around two academic departments: the Department of Management and the Department of Economics, and the faculty's quantitative and qualitative development plans were pursued in subsequent years.

With the expansion of its activities, the PhD program in Science and Technology Policy was launched in 2005 in collaboration with the University of Sussex in the UK and ran for three cohorts. In 2018, the Master's program in Science and Technology Policy was added to the faculty's educational portfolio with the admission of its first student cohort. In 2021, the interdisciplinary Department of Science and Technology Policy was established within the faculty in collaboration with the Science, Technology, and Industry Policy Research Center and the Department of Philosophy of Science at Sharif University of Technology.

The executive structure of the faculty includes the Dean, the Vice Dean for Education and Graduate Studies, the Vice Dean for Research and International Relations, the Vice Dean for Professional Education, and the Director of Student and Cultural Affairs.
