Contemporary humans are currently using over one and a half times the biocapacity of the Earth, and addressing challenges such as climate change, environmental degradation, resource depletion, population changes, and urbanization are among their main concerns. In this context, the construction industry, despite its wide-ranging impacts on the environment, society, and global economy, plays a crucial role in addressing these challenges. The construction industry can serve as a key determinant in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, adapting cities, villages, and buildings to climate changes, reducing resource consumption, and aligning human-made structures with rapidly changing environmental, economic, and social conditions.

The expansion of urbanization and the consequent rapid increase in excessive consumption of resources necessitates the urgent need for sustainable management of the construction industry. Iran also requires following this trend towards sustainable development, and in the not-so-distant future, the demand for experts in sustainable development in various fields will increase. Therefore, it is essential that education and research in areas related to sustainable development be prioritized in the agenda of the country's universities and educational centers.

Based on this, the first International Conference on Sustainable Design and Construction Management was held virtually on 13th and 14th of Bahman, 1400 (February 2022) by Sharif International Industrial Park, Kish, focusing on three main areas: sustainable cities, sustainable buildings, and sustainable civil infrastructure development. During the conference, selected articles submitted to the conference were presented to the secretariat, and participants benefited from various scientific workshops and seminars conducted by prominent national and international researchers.

The roadmap for achieving the sustainable development goals of the tourism industry in the country, with an emphasis on the relative and indigenous advantages of the country's tourist areas, is achieved through the development of national standards, their alignment and elevation to international standards through the scientific interaction of active researchers in various fields at national and international levels.
