Sharif ranks 529 in the world ranking

The newest university rankings were recently announced by
topuniversities.com.
Sharif ranks 529th in these ranking, which is a big improvement compared to ratings previously announced by different institutions. Sharif got a total of 22.3 points, highest point being 100 for Harvard. Cambridge and Oxford ranked second and third. The second Iranian university listed was Tehran University which ranked 539.
What was the methodology?
Dr Jalali Heravi says: "Two universities from Iran have earned a place among the top 550 universities in the world, this is welcoming news." About the methodology he added: "One of the institute’s most important principles is the universities research quality which is mostly based on the number of ISI articles to the number of professors and researchers." According to Dr Jalali another principle is the universities contracts with industries and organizations outside the university, and Sharif is one of the best universities in this aspect. About the effect of the professors’ standings he said: "The professor’s standings also have an effect on the universities ranking and Sharif has a good number of full and associate professors. This shows the universities scientific qualities." The number of graduate and under graduate students is on of the other principles for these rankings, and according to Dr Jalali the university has a large number of graduate students.
About the students and professors who have won scientific awards, Dr Jalali said: "The number of award winning professors and students also has an effect on the university’s ranking. National awards like the Kharazmi award which are as valuable as International awards also have an effect." He also added: "the CHEHREHAYE MANDEGAR" award can also be a principle, which the university has a lot of people who have won this award. Of course this is not a principle for

but Dr Jalali says it could be a principle for other institutes.
The university’s alumni are among the other ranking principles. Dr Jalali says: "Olympiad students signing up at Sharif earns some points for the university. Also alumni who do international projects have an effect on the ranking."
The tale of the old rankings
In previous rankings, Iranian universities ranked poorly. Dr Jalali told Sharif newspaper’s reporter that: "This type of ranking is not very scientific and it doesn’t have any international value. But the QS institute is an international institute and all of the world’s universities approve it. Its ranking system is scientific and it has more than one dimension to it that quality, research, education, international activities and alumni are all part of."
